Refund & Reservation Policy

Nucleus Hive Reservations

A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve nucleus hives (“nucs”).
Deposits secure your place in the production schedule and help us plan equipment, queens, and transport logistics.

Because nucs are built to order and held specifically for each customer, deposits are not refundable.

Order Changes & Transfers

If your situation changes, we will do our best to work with you when possible:

  • Deposits may be transferred to a later pickup window within the same season if availability allows.

  • Transfers are not guaranteed but we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate. 

Pickup Windows & Weather

  • All pickup dates are climate-dependent.

  • Honey bees are livestock, and release timing is based on:

  • Colony strength

  • Weather conditions

  • Bee health standards

  • If weather delays occur, your order will be rescheduled — not cancelled — to ensure you receive strong, viable bees.

Colony Strength Guarantee

  • Nucs are only released once they meet our health and strength standards.

  • If a reserved nuc does not meet our release criteria:

  • We will offer a replacement nuc when available
    or

  • Apply your deposit toward a later pickup.

Customer Cancellations

  • If you cancel your order:

  • Deposits remain non-refundable.

  • Any additional payments beyond the deposit may be refunded if cancellation occurs before nuc assembly begins.

Live Bee Sales

  • Once bees leave our possession:

  • Sales are final.

  • We cannot control hive management, weather, or handling after pickup.

  • We are always available for guidance and support — but ongoing hive success depends on management after transfer.

Our Approach

We are beekeepers, not lawyers.

We work with living animals, changing weather, and biological systems that don’t always read plans or policies. If you have an issue with a product or service purchased from 5280 Apiaries, please reach out directly.

We believe in honest communication and making things right within reason and within our control. Our goal is to resolve issues through conversation and good faith, not neglect or avoidance.

While policies help set expectations, we approach every situation as beekeepers first — with fairness, practicality, and respect for our customers and our bees.

Pollination Services & Other Products

  • Pollination agreements, honey, pollen, propolis, and specialty products may have separate terms depending on project scope.

Generally speaking, a Refund Policy often addresses these types of issues: the timeframe for asking for a refund; will the refund be full or partial; under which conditions will the customer receive a refund; and much, much more.
